Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Derick Lysene is very familiar with life and its challenges in the Valley of the Sun. 

Following a deep-seated sense of duty, Derick promptly joined the Marine Corps after graduating from Sandra Day O’Connor High School. Derick considers his experience in the Marine Corps to be the best education and experience he has ever received. Serving five years and fighting on two deployments with the Fighting Fifth Marine Regiment out of Camp Pendleton, California, Derick learned what it means to serve and to forget oneself in the pursuit of that service. 

After receiving an honorable discharge from the Marines, Derick went on to earn bachelor’s degrees in both Political Science and Justice Studies at Arizona State University in three years, making the Dean’s List 5 times, earning a Civil Education Certificate, and graduating Summa Cum Laude. Before he was finished with these two degrees ASU’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law accepted him to their three-year Juris Doctorate program. While attending law school, Derick gave over 200 pro bono hours to CourtWorks, a mock trial program for middle school children to participate in a mock trial hosted by the Arizona Federal District Court and founded by Judge Murgia, and volunteering for Judge Danielle Viola working in the Post-Conviction Relief unit, all while balancing a challenging class load and working as an extern for a criminal defense attorney.

Before joining the Vrana Law Firm team, Derick worked as an insurance defense attorney, litigating cases defending a variety of claims including auto accident injury claims. Derick now seeks to bring that valuable experience and insight to his practice at Vrana Law Firm pursuing injury claims for his clients. 

In his free time, Derick enjoys spending time with his wife, working out, playing games with family, hiking and reading.
